Description

Description

The project consists of constructing a new power plant to replace the existing plant that was originally built in 1975 and has been deemed as inefficient and past its lifespan. The Project scope includes the decommissioning and removal of the old power plant and then the construction of the new plant at the same site. The new power plant will be built on a substructure frame to reduce ground movement issues in the future, while maintaining the existing concrete pad, which will ensure the new plant is able to adapt to the impacts of climate change. Moreover, various operational elements of the old plant, such as electrical equipment, heating systems, and indoor fuel storage tanks will be updated to meet current building code requirements. During the construction, redundant mobile generation will be used in order to continue a stable electrical source so that continuity is maintained for all dependent on the power plant. The project aims to address issues of inefficiency, safety, reliability and ground stability of the existing plant by ensuring the new asset meets modern codes and standards for electrical safety, and will result in an additional 0.6 kilowatt-hour per litre of electricity generation output from the plant.
