Holding auctions for the purchase of electricity, especially those for new generation projects, are the basis for the expansion of the Brazilian electrical system. In order to meet the demand from distribution agents of the National Interconnected System (SIN), two Auctions will be held to purchase Electric Energy from New Generation Projects in 2022. Auctions A-5/2022 allowed the participation of projects with hydroelectric sources (CGH, PCH, UHE up to 50MW), wind, solar photovoltaic and biomass thermoelectric, urban solid waste, national mineral coal, biogas and natural gas . The selection criterion was the lowest price of the energy offered (in R$/MWh), observing the demand partition strategy between the sources defined by the MME, as well as the relative supply of each source in the auctions. Public Consultation No. 023/2022 was held, open for the period from 05/12/2022 to 06/27/2022, in which subsidies and additional information were collected to improve the notice proposal. The Notice was made available through the Bidding Notice, on 08/16/2022. On 09/13/2022, Relevant Notice nº 05 was published, with a new Auction schedule, defining the event to be held on 10/14/2022. The Auction was held on 10/14/2022, in which R$6.6 billion in energy sales contracts and investments estimated at R$2.95 billion were negotiated. The contracts have supply starting in January 2027 and supply terms between 15 and 20 years. The event celebrated the contracting of wind, solar photovoltaic and hydroelectric projects in the quantity modality, and biomass thermoelectric projects and from Urban Solid Waste in the availability modality. In Auction “A-5”, 176.8 average MW of energy were negotiated at an average price of R$237.48/MWh, with an average discount of 26.38%.
