New Fare Payment Technology

The project consists of replacing the farebox technology system to allow customers to pay for their trip with contactless payment (e.g. debit cards, credit cards, and mobile devices). The new fareboxes will enhance customer experience when paying fares and improve the overall quality of the transit system. Specifically, the project includes the purchase of 89 farebox systems for the conventional bus fleet, which will allow fare integration for a seamless transit experience for customers as the system will serve as a regional fare product between the different transit systems in the Niagara Region, where municipalities such as St. Catharines, Niagara Falls, Welland and Fort Erie are aligning their fare technology. By expanding the fare payment options and updating the technology to increase the speed at which passengers board, the project will improve the quality and safety of existing and future transit system in the Niagara region.
