Description | NB Power plans to build a large gas-powered plant near Midgic in southeastern New Brunswick, close to the Nova Scotia border. The plant will have a capacity of 400 megawatts, enough to power 320,000 homes, with potential expansion to 500 megawatts. It is intended to serve as a peaking facility to meet soaring electricity demand and act as backup to wind and solar energy. The plant will be built and operated by ProEnergy, a Missouri-based company, in partnership with the North Shore Mi'kmaq Tribal Council, which will hold a minority stake. The project aims to enhance grid reliability and security and help the province meet its greenhouse gas reduction goals by displacing heavier fuel-burning plants. |
