Description | The project involves the construction of a 6.2-km breakwater off the Port of Genoa in Italy.The breakwater will strengthen the role of the port system in the Rhine-Alpine Corridor of the Trans-European Transport Network (TENT). The foundation will reach a depth of 50 m. 7 million tons of rock material will be used to build the base. 100 precast concrete caissons will be placed along the base, reaching a scale of 35 m wide, 67 m long and up to 33 m high. The construction of the breakwater will provide safe access to the port for modern ships. When completed, the port will have an 800-m-long revolving basin, which will provide more space for cargo, passenger and cruise ships. |
