The Karnataka government has initiated the construction of a new international cricket stadium on the outskirts of Bengaluru, with the Karnataka Housing Board floating tenders for the first phase. The stadium will be constructed at Suryanagar in Indlawadi near Anekal and is expected to significantly boost the city's sports infrastructure. The first phase, costing Rs 950 crore, includes constructing the main stadium, developing connecting roads, and allied infrastructure works. The stadium will have a seating capacity of around 80,000, making it the second largest cricket stadium in India. The design incorporates a modern seating bowl concept inspired by global stadiums and will serve as a multi-purpose venue for cricket matches, concerts, and cultural events. The second phase will expand the sports ecosystem with additional facilities like an indoor sports arena and aquatic complex. The first phase is expected to be completed within three years.
