Description
Description | The New Mexico City International Airport was a planned transport hub for Mexico City, designed to be one of the greenest airports in the world with LEED platinum certification. Construction began on the largely dry bed of Lake Texcoco but was canceled in 2018 after significant environmental damage and a cost of over $13 billion. The incomplete project destroyed migratory bird habitats, altered landscapes, and caused environmental degradation. The site has since been transformed into the Lake Texcoco Ecological Park, a large urban park focused on ecosystem restoration and flood control. |
