Description | The government is planning a major transformation of the health sector through the construction of a new Muhimbili National Hospital worth 1.2 trillion Tanzanian shillings, designed to deliver specialist and super-specialist healthcare services in line with international standards. The project aims to strengthen medical tourism, improve services for local and foreign patients, reduce referrals abroad, expand treatment areas, shorten patient waiting times, improve working conditions for staff, generate foreign exchange earnings, and strengthen the national economy. The project is a five-year undertaking following an assessment of the current hospital's challenges including ageing infrastructure and high operational costs. |
