New Nuclear Power Plant in Oswego

planned

The town of Oswego, New York, which already has three nuclear power plants within 10 miles, is seeking to add another nuclear power plant. New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced a commitment to add a gigawatt of nuclear power to the state grid to meet electricity demands, including those from the AI industry. Oswego is vying to be chosen as the site for this new power plant. The project aims to provide clean, reliable energy and create hundreds of jobs, but faces challenges such as public concerns about nuclear safety, waste management, cost, and long construction timelines. If chosen, it would likely take over a decade before the plant becomes operational.
