New Nuclear Reactors Construction in France

Electricite de France SA (EDF) is seeking cooperation among France's largest construction firms to work together on new nuclear reactors to contain project costs. The project involves constructing six new atomic plants, with the first pair of reactors being built in Penly, northern France. EDF aims to make a final investment decision on the six new reactors by the end of next year, pending European Union approval for a planned state loan. The construction phase at Penly will involve about 4,000 people at its peak. EDF awarded a contract worth more than €4 billion to Eiffage for the main civil engineering works for the first two reactors. EDF is encouraging cooperation among builders like Bouygues SA, Eiffage SA, Vinci SA, and smaller builders to share know-how and overcome a lack of skilled workers.
