New Oil Pipeline from Alberta to B.C. Coast

A new major oil pipeline is proposed to be built along the existing route of the Trans Mountain pipeline system from outside Edmonton, Alberta to British Columbia's Lower Mainland. The pipeline is expected to carry one million barrels of oil per day for export from the B.C. coast. The project is projected to cost between $35.2 billion and $43.7 billion, with Ottawa and Edmonton planning to take a 90 percent stake in its construction. The pipeline is expected to add billions to the national economy, create 140,000 jobs during construction, and improve prices for Canadian oil. However, it is also expected to increase greenhouse gas emissions significantly, potentially offsetting emissions reductions from carbon capture projects.
