Description

Description

Georgia Power is progressing on new natural gas generation units at Plant Yates in Coweta County, Georgia. The company recently received delivery of major components including a hydrogen-ready Mitsubishi Power M501JAC simple-cycle gas combustion turbine and a Mitsubishi Electric Power VP-X Series turbine generator for the new Unit 9 combustion turbine. The units were assembled at Mitsubishi Power's Savannah Machinery Works and transported to the site by rail and truck. The project includes three new combustion turbines approved by the Georgia Public Service Commission in the 2023 Integrated Resource Plan, expected to be online by the end of 2027 to meet growing energy demand. The turbines provide higher output and efficiency, with flexibility to run on oil and capability for hydrogen fuel blending in the future.
