Description

Description

The “New Water Supply - Rocky Harbour” project aims to enhance the town’s water infrastructure to ensure safer, more reliable, and higher-quality drinking water. This comprehensive initiative includes both planning and capital construction components, beginning with the establishment of a new groundwater source to replace the existing surface water system. Key infrastructure upgrades include the installation of three new water supply wells, well pumps, a new pump house, 1,400 metres of water transmission line, and a bolted glass-fused-to-steel storage tank with a geodesic aluminum dome roof, measuring 10.92 metres in diameter and 11.25 metres in height. The project also involves improvements to filtration and disinfection processes to address elevated levels of Trihalomethanes (THMs) and Haloacetic Acids (HAAs), which currently exceed drinking water standards and pose health risks. These upgrades will result in improved water pressure, enhanced fire flow, and reduced environmental and health hazards. By supporting and preserving 556 housing units, the project contributes to the availability of affordable housing in the community. Ultimately, the New Water Supply Project will deliver a sustainable and resilient water system that protects public health and supports long-term community growth.
