Description
Description | The New York Canal is a 41-mile irrigation canal in the Treasure Valley, Idaho, beginning at the Boise River Diversion Dam below Lucky Peak reservoir and ending at Lake Lowell in Nampa. It supports five irrigation districts and is essential for agriculture and residential water needs. The canal was initially launched in the 1880s with financial backing from New York investors but faced financial difficulties. The United States Bureau of Reclamation completed the Boise River Diversion Dam and the canal in the early 1900s. The canal has undergone several rehabilitation projects, with the most recent starting in 2024 to rehabilitate a six-mile section. |
