Description | On July 14, 2026, New York Governor Kathy Hochul issued an executive order pausing the issuance of discretionary permits for the construction or expansion of data centers by the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) until the Department of Public Service (DPS) completes a Generic Environmental Impact Statement (GEIS) and associated findings. The order addresses environmental and grid impact concerns related to large-scale data center development using 50 megawatts or more of electric power. It also directs the development of a Community Investment Framework and a Grid Acceleration Fund to manage infrastructure and community impacts. |
