Description | New York launches a $542 million effort to bring high-speed internet to over 58,000 unserved and underserved homes and businesses statewide. The initiative is part of the federal Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment program and targets the final 1% of locations statewide still lacking reliable service. The project includes $287 million in federal funding, $7 million in state funding, and $248 million from private providers, involving nine internet service providers using fiber, fixed wireless, and satellite technologies, primarily in rural areas. The state will submit provisional awards for environmental review before construction begins. |
