Description | A master developer team led by a joint venture of Skanska and Halmar International has been chosen to redesign and expand New York Penn Station, the busiest transportation hub in North America. The project includes a new grand entrance on Eighth Avenue, replacing cramped walkways with open concourses, expanding track capacity with limited through-running on the regional rail network, and improving retail, signage, and passenger experience. The project will not move Madison Square Garden, which limits platform expansion. The federal government will provide $200 million for design and permitting, with additional funding from Amtrak and NJ Transit. The total federal investment is expected to be $8 billion. Construction could start before the end of 2027. |
