Description | The New Jersey Turnpike Authority plans to construct a pair of cable-supported bridges to replace the existing Newark Bay Bridge, officially known as the Vincent Robert Casciano Bridge, which was first constructed in 1954 and is nearing the end of its serviceable life. The new structures will each feature four lanes in both eastbound and westbound directions, greatly increasing vehicle capacity. The project is part of a larger plan to expand the I-78 Turnpike extension and widen the entire 8.1-mile stretch of the roadway. |
