Description
Description | London-based renewables developer Elements Green has acquired the 300-MW Newarthill battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Scotland from developer Geocore. The project is planned as a two-hour duration battery storage facility with potential expansion to four hours. It is transmission-connected, received planning consent in February 2025, and targets energisation in October 2029. The BESS will connect to a nearby 275-kV substation and has secured a grid offer from the UK's National Energy System Operator (NESO). The site is strategically located within Scotland's transmission network to help ease network congestion and improve system flexibility. |
