Description | The NewBo redevelopment project involved reclaiming and redeveloping old industrial sites in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, including the Iowa Iron Works and Iowa Steel industrial sites. The city acquired these properties through a three-way trade and began demolition and cleanup funded by federal and state grants. The redevelopment led to the creation of the Geonetric office building and the Depot mixed-use development. The project also included the demolition of the former meatpacking complex and incorporation of the old plant's smokestack into the Alliant Energy LightLine Bridge, a pedestrian and bicycle bridge connecting the Czech Village and NewBo areas. |
