Description

Description

Repairs to existing pivot windows on lower section and installation of new louvre glazing to remove existing gap to upper section of the footbridge. The footbridge between Newmarket Station and Remuera Road is partially enclosed along both elevations with 2.0-meter-high pivot mounted glass panes; above which there is 1.6-meter-high clear openings between these windows and the roof. The footbridge is the pedestrian route for rail customers to enter/exit the station. A site inspection was conducted at Newmarket Station footbridge in response to safety concerns raised due to the condition of the existing pivot windows that run it full length. Outcome of that inspection determined that the current pivot windows are not secure and could result in a person falling through if sufficient force were applied. There is also a gap above the existing windows that does not prevent rain from entering, this creates slip hazards to the footbridge in those conditions. The PT Facilities & Structures have been instructed to assess the footbridge and provide proposed solutions to remove the potential safety hazards to both the pivot configuration and gap above the existing window configuration.
