Description

Description

The NextGW project aims to revolutionise gravitational wave (GW) astronomy by developing next-generation waveform models for extreme-mass-ratio inspirals (EMRIs), which will be critical for the success of the future space-based GW observatory LISA. EMRIs provide unique insights into the strong-field regime of gravity around supermassive black holes, enabling precise tests of general relativity and a deeper understanding of the fundamental nature of black holes. Accurate models are essential for detecting and interpreting these signals, and this project will push the frontiers of waveform modelling by incorporating astrophysically realistic features, including the spin of the primary black hole, eccentric orbits, and precession. By enhancing the predictive power of gravitational self-force (GSF) theory, NextGW will pave the way for transformative discoveries that could reshape our understanding of gravity, space-time, and the universe. As a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow, I will receive world-class training at the University of Southampton, working closely with leaders in the field of GW science. This fellowship will provide me with advanced expertise in GSF theory, waveform modelling, and data analysis, as well as training in interdisciplinary collaboration, project management, and public engagement. By collaborating with the LISA Consortium and participating in international research efforts, I will be well-prepared to lead future research initiatives in gravitational wave astronomy. The outcomes of NextGW will advance the scientific objectives of upcoming GW observatories like LISA and the Einstein Telescope and contribute to Europe’s leadership in a field poised to revolutionise fundamental physics.
