Nextel provides mobile telephonic services in Lima and nearby regions. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Nextel International. The company initially provided services through over 212 frequencies in the 800 MHz band. In 2000, Nextel paid US$ 3.1 million to buy an additional 22 frequencies. Nextel acquired 100 percent of the company in May 2000 with the purchase of shares from Motorola International Development Corporation (for US$30 million) and minority shareholders (for US$2.8 million). In October 2006, Nextel del Peru acquired Millicom Peru SA for US $5 million. In July 2007, Nextel del Peru was awarded a 20-year Band D and E mobile licence covering the frequencies 1865–1870 MHz/1945–1950 MHz and 1882.5–1895 MHz/1962.5–1975 MHz for US$27 million. In 2013, Nextel del Peru was sold to the Chilean group Entel for US$ 400 million. The company's name was changed to Entel Peru.
