Description

Description

Procurement of Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) hardware and Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) software to replace existing data solution on up to 575 buses within seven Regional Transit Systems (Nanaimo, Comox Valley, Whistler, Squamish, Kamloops, Kelowna, and Victoria) and will expand AVL/CAD to 14 more regions on up to 63 buses. This will align BC Transit’s conventional fleet into one operational data solution. The total number of revenue vehicles to benefit from this new data solution is approximately 638. The data collected by this new solution will provide vital information to BC Transit about current vehicle locations, schedule adherence, breakdowns, and emergencies. It will pass real time location information to customers through vehicle head signs, and mobile and web-based applications. In particular, the automatic voice annunciators for bus stops upon approach and visual displays of bus stops on the PIDs significantly decrease barriers for customers who are visually or hearing impaired.
