Description | Ngonye Falls Hydroelectric Project is a project by Western Power Company located in Zambezi River in the Western Province of Zambia. The project is worth more than $600m and will be the largest run-of-river hydro in Zambia and largest Zambian renewable private power producer (IPP) with 180 MW capacity and 830 GWhr per year of energy generation, it will produce up to 25 times the current consumption of Western Province (7MW) enough power for 175,000 Zambian households, equivalent to 900,000 people. Construction period starts from 2023 and will take 3 to 4-years employing 3,000 people. The project is a collaboration between the private sector, host community, Zambian Government and development assistance partners. The project is available for FDI through a majority stake. The project has development and funding partners which are African Power Projects (APP), InfraCo Africa and The Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA). |
