Description

Nhava Sheva International Container Terminal (NSICT) is a joint venture between P&O Ports Australia (49%), Konsortium Perkapalan Berhad (46%) and DCB Port management (5%). In March 2006, UAE's DP World became the majority shareholder of NSICT after it completed the acquisition of P&O Ports. Total equity was US$80million. The terminal project, which was expected to cost around US$200 million, had been awarded to NSICT in 01/97, but had been awaiting clearance from the ministry of environment and forests. Clearance was finally received on October 9, 1998. Implementation of the project commenced in 08/97. An order for four quay cranes, eight rubber tyre gantry cranes and two rail mounted gantry cranes was placed with German engineering firm, Preussag Noell AG. Construction was contracted to Trafalgar House Construction India for US$21 million in 1997. The consortium guaranteed throughput of 600.000 TEU by the 15th year of operation, the port handled a throughput of 339.000 TEU in 1996. Container throughput at Jawaharlal Nehru for the first five months of the financial year 1998-99 (April to August 1998) was 259,994 teu, compared with 203,424 teu for the corresponding period in 1997-98. This constituted an increase of 27.8%. In 2000, the new container terminal was commissioned. http://portal.pohub.com/portal/page?_pageid=761,248749&_dad=pogprtl&_schema=POGPRTL http://portal.pohub.com/portal/page?_pageid=147,149089,147_149217&_dad=pogprtl&_schema=POGPRTL In March 2006, P&O was acquired by DP World of UAE.
