The project entails the construction and operation of a 30 MW photovoltaic solar power plant with a 15 MW/45 MWh storage system in Niakhar, Senegal. It aims to achieve 40% renewable energy in Senegal’s energy mix and enhance access to electricity for over 2.3 million people. The electricity generated is going to be sold to Senegal’s state-owned utility SENELEC. The total project cost is $59 million, with $24.4 million from The West African Development Bank (BOAD), $19.9 million from local banks, and $14.7 million from shareholders. The Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) established for the project is Teranga Niakhar Storage, and the facility will be built by Omexom, a subsidiary of the French group Vinci. Energy Resources Senegal holds a 100% ownership stake in the project company.
