Description
Description | The program to rehabilitate and strengthen the resilience of Lake Chad Basin Socio-Ecological Systems (PRESIBALT) is a regional operation which is part of the Five-year Investment Plan (2013-2017) of the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC). It aims to enhance the resilience of vulnerable populations in Cameroon, Niger, Nigeria, CAR and Chad, which depend on the Lake basin’s natural resources. The planned interventions under this program are structured around three components: (i) Preservation and enhanced water resources management; (ii) Development of ecological services and value chains; and (iii) Institutional capacity building and Program management. PRESIBALT is a five-year project which will be implemented through a modular approach to take into account the security context prevailing in some parts around Lake Chad Basin and the extreme urgency to implement environmental safeguard actions and economic activities for the populations. With this approach, the program implementation will factor in various levels of security and local specificities. Implementing PRESIBALT will improve regional and local dialogue/cooperation for integrated natural resources management and intra-regional trade in agricultural produce, as well as address the social dimension of resilience, which will in the long run reduce potential sources of conflict. The program cost is estimated at UA 71.23 million, of which UA 53.82 million will be come from ADF resources. |
