Niger - Rural Water supply Programme Study

The proposed study is among the Government’s priorities in economic and social development in Niger. The study will give details on the Water Resources Development Master Plan (SDMVRE) on the basis of a more thorough resources and requirements assessment. It should lead to the creation of a mechanism permitting decentralised planning (by basin, by region, department and commune) of PWSS actions according to a participatory approach and a well determined programming cycle. The study will be conducted in two phases in the rural areas of Niger over a total of fourteen (14) months, including two one month periods each to review and approve reports by the Administration of Niger and the ADF as well as to ensure their finalisation by the consultant. The total cost is estimated at UA 0.98 million. Conducting the study will contribute to achieving the objective of supplying potable water and providing access to adequate sanitation infrastructure objective in rural areas by the year 2010, owing to better awareness of the sector’s needs and sound preparation of projects and programmes.
