Description | The Water Mobilization Project to enhance Food Security in Maradi, Tahoua and Zinder Regions (PMERSA-MTZ) which has been identified under the Global Agriculture and Food Security Programme (GAFSP) is a multilateral funding mechanism for implementing the G20 commitments for food security. PMERSA-MTZ revolves around water resource mobilization and enhancement actions to increase and secure agricultural output, and thus enhance food security in Niger. The total project cost is UA 40,443 million. It will run for a period of five years. The main achievements expected are: (i) the construction and rehabilitation of spread irrigation bunds, mini-dams and irrigated perimeters for the development of a surface area of approximately 17,600 ha; (ii) securing the land of developed sites; (iii) the construction of village wells, rural roads and storage facilities. These achievements will increase irrigated areas, reduce post-harvest losses, increase agricultural output, and improve living standards for more than 200,000 persons. |
