Nigeria - Anambra/Enugu/Ebonyi States Rural Infrastructures Project

The proposed project is in pursuance of the Government’s policy of rising the standard of living of the rural areas through development of viable infrastructures and social amenities in the hinterland, in order to attract industries, which have hitherto tended to concentrate in the metropolitan areas, and to reverse the rural-urban migration of population. The project will provide about 80% of Anambra State rural population with continuous clean water supply from 208 schemes. Each scheme will produce an average of 750 cubic meter per day with 8 - 10 hours of operation. The project will also provide 120 towns/communities in the rural areas of Anambra State thereby considerably improving infrastructure in line with both the state’s and the Federal Government’s policy of emphasizing and giving priority to rural electrification. The availability of electric power in the rural areas should spur a marked increase in the sprouting of small scale industries thereby creating more employment opportunities as well as minimizing the rural-urban drift. The project as conceived will be composed of three components as follows: (i) Rural Water Supply; (ii) Rural Electricity; (iii) Industrial Estates.
