Description

Description

The proposed project constitutes the first phase of the planned water supply programme for Ibadan which falls in line with the development strategies and priorities of both the Oyo State Government and the GONIR. The prevailing water supply in the city is totally inadequate from both quantity and quality aspects. Industrial development has been restricted due to lack of adequate quantities of water supply. Domestic demands have hardly been met resulting in the extensive use of non-acceptable sources usually located at long distances from housing estates. If implemented, the project would raise the total capacity of the three treatment works from the current 56,000 m3/d to 120,000 m3/d. The second phase, whose designs will be carried out under the Emergency works, will ensure that the total production capacity of 225,000 m3/d would be obtainable from the treatment works. The proposed study would provide medium (10-15 years) and long term (over 15 years) solutions to water supply problems clearly outlining the various options available with associated financial and social implications.
