Nigeria - Ibadan Water Supply II Project

The proposed project as a follow up to an earlier project Ibadan Emergency Water Rehabilitation Project approved by the Bank in 1986. The emergency project sought to rehabilitate the existing water supply infrastructure which was in a state of total disrepair to restore it to its original installed capacity of 122 500 m3/d. This second Ibadan Water Supply Project involves the duplication of the main treatment plant for the City which would increase the supply by a further 82,000 m3/d. It is recognized that these duplication works should have been put in place some ten years or so ago. Howerer. The reinforcement and extention of the existing network which will be supplied by a twin trunk rising pipeline to be constructed under the proposed project, would significantly improve the supply to Ibadan, even more so, when the effects of the on-going leak detection and repairs are also taken into account. At the same time the project will extend the coverage by some 20 sq km, reinforcig the existing network and strengthening the institution so that it can operate commercially. The components include the following: i) Supply and Laying of Pipes; ii) Construction of General Civil Engineering works; iii) Provision of Operational Equipement; iv) Provision of Technical Assistance; v) Provision of Engineering Services.
