Nigeria's telecommunications infrastructure, including fibre cables, cell towers, base stations, and data centres, is facing severe vandalism and theft. Over 35,000 fibre optic cuts and 3,168 theft-related incidents were recorded in 2025, causing service disruptions and financial losses. The infrastructure is designated as Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII) due to its importance to sectors like banking, healthcare, education, and national security. The sector faces challenges such as vandalism, sabotage, site access denial, theft, poor electricity supply, bureaucratic hurdles in Right-of-Way approvals, cybersecurity threats, and insecurity in conflict-prone regions.
