Description

US renewables developer Arevon Energy Inc has kicked off construction of its 300-MW/1,200-MWh Nighthawk Energy Storage Project in Poway, California. The USD-600-million facility will use lithium iron phosphate battery technology and will be capable of supplying power for up to four hours a day, serving the equivalent of 385,000 homes during peak demand periods. Arevon developed and will own and operate the battery, which is contracted to provide energy and resource adequacy to Pacific Gas and Electric Co under a long-term agreement signed in 2021. Nighthawk will connect to the grid at the Sycamore Canyon Substation at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, serving the San Diego area. California-headquartered Rosendin is building the facility, which is expected to employ more than 130 workers at the peak of construction.
