Description
Description | OJP is committed to advancing work that promotes civil rights and racial equity, increases access to justice, supports crime victims and individuals impacted by the justice system, strengthens community safety and protects the public from crime and evolving threats, and builds trust between law enforcement and the community. NIJ is authorized to distribute funds to support projects designated for funding in the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2022 (Public Law 117-103) that improve the functioning of the criminal justice system, prevent or combat juvenile delinquency, and assist victims of crime (other than compensation). NIJ’s Research Assistantship Program (RAP) furthers the Department’s mission by supporting the development of new knowledge and tools to address the challenges of crime and justice in the United States. Through the RAP, NIJ helps train the next generation of scholars. By doing so, our research can become more relevant and useful to the field to ultimately reduce crime and enhance public safety. Statutory Authority: Title I of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 (sections 201 and 202). |
