Information Water Resources Department, Govt. of A.P has come up with Nippulagavu Upgradation Project with a ticket size of 1415 INR Crores. This project in Irrigation sub-sector involves The current status of the project is Notice to Proceed and is being developed through the EPC route. Economic/Social Impact of the Project The Kundu River is almost flattened and when the floods incurred the water area is spreading and inundating all villages surrounding the river and the entire Nandyal town. Almost all the bridges across Kundu are dilapidated condition and moreover they are very narrow and are submerging/overflows very frequently during the flood seasons. In order to overcome this situation the river courses are proposed for enhanced discharges of 35000 cusecs by re-sectioning with deeper bed levels to deplete the flood waters in the surrounding areas of inundation in faster way and protecting the banks by constructing side walls wherever necessary along the river course to avoid encroaching the flood waters into the villages. This work is proposed for Improvements to Escape Channel, Nippulavagu, Galeru River and Kundu River from Km 0.000 to Km 189.200 and Re-gradation of Vagu, flood Protection works and providing high level Bridges to en-route villages for improving the carrying capacity to 35000 cusecs. Administrative approval accorded for Rs 1415.00 Cr. VideG.O.RT. No.388 dt.15-07.2020. Benefits: ? Flood mitigation ? To overcome Inundation of Nandyal and Surrounding Villages. ? To carry flood water to Somasila Reservoir across Penna River in Nellore District, this serves ayacut of Nellore and Prakasham Districts and drinking water supply to Chennai city. ? To accommodate the flood at enroute villages at bridge locations by reconstructing high level bridges wherever necessary. ? Stabilizing KC canal ayacut.
