Description

NJ TRANSIT has taken delivery of the first of 374 Multilevel III rail cars from Alstom as part of its fleet modernisation programme. The new rail cars will undergo testing and commissioning in New Jersey before entering passenger service. The procurement is part of a broader investment programme valued at more than 3 billion USD, which also includes new buses, paratransit vehicles, and upgrades to light rail equipment. The new rail cars offer higher mechanical reliability, increased seating capacity, onboard information screens, USB charging ports, and improved accessibility. They will gradually replace older rail cars and are designed to operate at speeds up to 110 mph.
