Economic/Social Impact of the Project NMDC is constructing a 3.0 million Tonne Per Annum [MTPA] Integrated Steel Plant at Nagarnar, 16 Kilometres [Kms] away from Jagdalpur, Bastar District, Chhattisgarh. The upcoming 3MTPA Steel Plant of NMDC will enhance the steel production capacity of the country. Further this Steel plant will generate employment opportunity, boost the local economy, generate alternative livelihood for local people, developing ancillary units in and around Bastar region. The plant consists of 2 nos. 7m tall Coke oven Batteries, 460m2 Sinter Plant , 4500 m3 Blast Furnace, 2x175 T BOF, Thin slab Caster and Hot strip Mill and other associated facilities. This Plant is designed to produce 3million Ton of HR Coils per year MECON Limited is the Engineering, Procurement, Construction Management [EPCM] consultant. Project is in advance stage of completion and commissioning activities have been started. First phase of Commissioning i.e 1st Coke pushing was done on 28.10.2022 from Coke Oven Battery-1 . Coke Oven Battery-1 is in operation along with By-Product Plant. Different units of By- Product Plant are being stabilised. Other major units like Blast Furnace, SMS and TSC HSM Package are under testing and trials. Utilities like water systems, Compressor air systems and Electrical power systems are under operation.
