Description
Description | Nobody Offside is a social inclusion programme for young amputees. Through football, the intention is to get more young amputees physically and socially active. Five European organisations will deliver local programmes that get more young amputees involved in football, and will also inspire other clubs to participate in this programme, offering young people in Europe the opportunity to play football on their own level on a regular basis. This is a partnership programme to exchange best practices and develop a methodology to improve the development and delivery of disability football programmes. Alongside the creation of this strategy and the resources attached to it, and local programme delivery, two major European events will take place, a summer junior camp for amputee footballers, as well as a Nobody Offside “Champions League” and Festival. Awareness and training will be the first stages of the project. A European awareness campaign will be launched that will also include a video competition so amputees across Europe have a chance to attend the international events. Referees and coaches will be trained. This will upskill these individuals and have a longer term impact from a capacity building perspective. The methodology will be tested over four seasons, with the international events bisecting them. The summer camp will give the young amputees the chance to socialise while improving their football skills. The final event, the Nobody Offside “Champions League” and Festival, will bring together teams and players for a festival of amputee football celebration, getting to meet other players from around the continent and compete. The project will give young amputees the opportunity to participate in their community and meet new people, decreasing social isolation and improving mental and physical health. The project will also increase awareness and acceptance of amputee and disability football, encourage more people to play, and more clubs to create teams. |
