Description
Description | NINJA² addresses the challenges faced in GNSS-contested and denied environments, where traditional precision-guided munitions fail due to jamming and spoofing. The project will develop an affordable, modular, accurate, and intelligent ammunition system to enhance precision and resilience in all modern weapon systems, including the possibility to upgrade existing systems. The NINJA² philosophy is focussed around creating a Modular Open System Architecture (MOSA) which will be interoperable, flexible, and scalable for all smart ammunition systems. The core idea is to enable the development of munitions with shared components and standardized interfaces, allowing for rapid integration, upgrades, and customisation across different platforms and munition types. The NINJA² system is centred around a guidance module for artillery ammunitions, incorporating advanced technologies for navigation and guidance. The system will also incorporate AI-based target detection, recognition, and tracking, as well as scene matching technology for terminal guidance. The project, led by Rheinmetall, will involve collaboration between various European partners and leverage existing technologies to develop this scalable and modular open architecture for guided munitions. The ultimate goal is to provide a European system that reduces the need for large quantities of ammunition while increasing precision and minimizing wear and tear on weapon systems. |
