Description
Description | The FC measure includes the construction of the Noor IV photovoltaic power plant at the Ouarzazate site in Morocco with an installed capacity of around 70 MW. It is the first large-scale photovoltaic power plant in Morocco. As part of the Moroccan solar plan, the project is part of the Ouarzazate solar complex and complements the solar thermal power plants at the same location co-financed by the FC. The estimated total cost of the photovoltaic power plant, including development and connection infrastructure, is around EUR 80 million. The FC contribution consists of a low-interest loan of EUR 60 million with funds from the Initiative for Climate and Environmental Protection (IKLU). After commercial commissioning in 2017, at least 119 GWh of electricity are to be generated annually and around 56,000 t of CO2 are to be saved per year. The project thus makes a significant contribution to supplying households, public institutions and companies connected to the Moroccan power grid with electricity in a safe and climate-friendly manner (DC program objective). As with the previous projects, the project sponsor and borrower is the public agency for solar energy, Masen (Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy). Implementation and operation are carried out within the framework of a public-private partnership (PPP) by a project company that Masen founded with the private consortium identified through a tender. |
