Description
Description | The Nordic Film Days is one of Europe’s oldest film festivals devoted entirely to European cinema. At the last festival, a total of 21 MEDIA countries were represented in the program through co-productions with the Nordic countries and the Baltic States. First launched in 1956 by a cinephile local film club, it remains a festival for the general public, in addition to attracting more than 500 industry professionals and press. They return each year for the special mix of must-sees and new discoveries from the region. 10 festival sections focus on new narrative films, documentaries, short films, immersive experiences and drama series, awarding eleven prizes endowed with a total of € 63,000, and one lifetime achievement award. Emphasis is given to films by young European directors. Due to its enthusiastic audiences, Luebeck has been appreciated as an ideal platform to test the quality of films for the European and German market. Representatives from all sectors of the film business are coming to Luebeck to meet audiences, filmmakers and creatives discover and consider films for the German market, and attend seminars and other events within the framework of the festival’s industry hub “Luebeck Meetings”. Special attention is given to films for the young audience. Based on that section’s astute eye for good art, and its decades of experience, the festival’s management and creative team sees film education and participation possibilities for all age groups as one of the key tasks for the future. Exchanges with national and European festivals play a decisive role in that, continuously expanding existing partnerships. The festival attracts audience for activities and events all year round, such as the media literacy program for schools „NFLplus“ or special screenings in the framework of local cultural events. The festival editions of 2023 and 2024 will be on-site, parts of the program will be available for public audience and industry on the festival’s VoD platform. |
