The primary areas of project interventions and impacts include the North Aral Sea (NAS), South Aral Sea (SAS) and Syr Darya delta systems within Kazakhstan. The project area also includes both the full Syr Darya basin area within the country and the entire Kyzylorda region. Within these areas the project will generate major improvements to climatic and environmental conditions, biodiversity and ecosystems, human health and well-being, socio-economic livelihoods and quality of life, and water sector climate change resilience and preparedness.The project comprises three components:(a) improving water infrastructure and hydrological regime in the NAS and adjacent Syr Darya basin areas, (b) supporting sustainable economic, social and environmental activities in Kyzylorda region, and (c) improving basin-level information bases and water resources management, enhancing dam safety, and supporting project management.
