planned

Senate Bill 205 (formerly House Bill 765) is a statewide housing legislation in North Carolina aimed at increasing the rate of approval for housing projects by allowing more density, encouraging infill housing, and limiting local zoning authority to speed up development approvals. The bill seeks to address a projected housing inventory gap of over 764,000 units in the state, including a significant need for for-sale houses and housing for residents at various income levels. The bill is under negotiation and has drawn both praise and criticism from lawmakers and local governments.
