North Lake College construction began in 1975 on farmland donated by the John Carpenter family. The college opened for the Summer I semester in 1977 with nearly 2,900 credit students. The T Building was constructed in 1990 to accommodate Construction, Office Technology, Diesel Mechanics, and IT programs. The C Building opened in 1993 housing science and math classes. The Workforce Development Center opened in 2009 offering LEED-certified space for workforce education. The South Campus opened in 2009, and the G Building opened in November 2009 providing classrooms and administrative offices. The North Campus opened in Coppell in 2008. A DART light rail station opened on the central campus in 2012. The Student Life Center was awarded LEED Silver Certification in 2013.
