Description

The North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) is the Philippines' largest-ever rail investment aimed to alleviate traffic congestion in Metro Manila. It is a 147-km urban rail system connecting New Clark City to Calamba in Laguna, passing through Central Luzon, Metro Manila, and Calabarzon, with 36 stations. The project includes 51 commuter and 7 limited-express trainsets, operating at speeds up to 130 km/h, and features a 2-km tunnel to Clark Airport for the country's first airport express train. The NSCR is expected to serve around 800,000 daily riders and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by over 60,000 tonnes annually. Partial operations are expected by 2027, with full operations likely by Q2-Q3 2029, though right-of-way issues may delay full operations to 2032.
