Description
Description | In June 2012, the Chinese company China Harbor Engineering was granted through direct negotiations with federal authorities the right to build and operate the 67.2-km toll road named North South Link of the Highway 2000 Project in Jamaica. The 50-year concession contract was signed in June 2012, and the sponsor created the company Jamaica North South Highway Company Limited to lead the project. The investment was estimated at US$ 600 million over the life of the project. Financial closure was achieved in June 2013, when a US$ 225.5m 20-year credit facility was granted by China Development Bank. The remaining investment cost was set to be equity financed. Construction began in January 2013 and was expected to be fully completed in early 2016, although operations were set to commence by August 2014. |
