Description | Skanska has signed a $1 billion design-build contract with the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) to replace the 1930s-era North Station Draw One bascule bridge spanning the Charles River. The project includes building new vertical lift spans, upgrading approach trestles, constructing a new Tower A control facility, and supporting the addition of a new Platform F at North Station. The work also involves integrated track, signal, and positive train control upgrades, enhancing resilience and maintaining uninterrupted commuter rail and Amtrak service throughout construction. The replacement will increase the number of tracks across the river from four to six. |
