North Valley Waste Management Authority operates a regional landfill at NW 1/4 21-21-12-W2M. Prior to our purchase of the property in 2001, it was used as pasture land. In 2021 our current cell will be nearing capacity. The objective of this project is to reduce impacts to the environment by preventing future leachate generation from the cell by capping it with suitable material. Based on engineering recommendations, a minimum of 600 mm of suitable clay material will be placed and compacted above the cell followed by 200 mm of topsoil. The area will be sloped, contoured and seeded with native grass mix to ensure proper drainage of rain and melt water away from the cell and reduce erosion of the surface soils. Future monitoring will take place as required and approved by the Ministry of the Environment.
